In the News: NHS to pay nearly £30 million due to negligence that left a baby with catastrophic life changing injuries

The family of a baby girl who suffered catastrophic brain injuries shortly after her birth has recently been awarded £29.3 million in compensation after Stockport NHS Foundation Trust admitted there were negligent delays in her treatment.

According to the family’s legal team, the Trust made a “series of negligent omissions” including a delay in performing surgery.

As a result of the negligence, the baby suffered cerebral palsy and irreversible life changing permanent injuries.

The compensation award approved by the High Court in London is believed to be the second largest settlement in a medical negligence claim against the NHS.

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust offered its "sincere apologies" to the family and said "many improvements" had been made in the years since the baby was born.
